Musical productivity
Mozart Symphony no 25 in G minor, K 183 Movement 1 Allegro con Brio
Some of the discussion on productivity in Joe Walker’s podcast is about ways to improve the productivity of a string quartet.
But why stop at a string quartet?
Compare these two performances of the first movement of Mozart’s Symphony no 25 in G minor, K 183:
A traditional labour-intensive performance with 25 musicians, and the overhead of a conductor.
A state-of-the-art high-productivity performance.
Notice too that although both versions have the same number of notes, the second is 18 percent shorter (324 seconds compared with 396 seconds), which suggests the orchestra at the Peace Center was probably being paid by the hour, rather than by the note.
