Matilda, and other cautionary tales for politicians
This day, 27 July, would be Hilaire Belloc’s 154 th birthday. He was best-known for his Cautionary tales for children, now online with illustrations thanks to Project Gutenburg. For our politicians there is the story of Matilda, who paid a terrible price for lying, and the story of Lord Lundy whose inability to cope with the stresses of politics saw him banished to the British Empire’s farthest outpost.
