Freedom

Tuesday June 21 was World Refugee Day. The UNHCR reports that there are 108 million forcibly-displaced people worldwide (think 4 X Australia’s population), of whom 35 million are refugees (think 1.3 X Australia’s population).

The Refugee Orchestra Project plays Milad Yousufi’s composition Freedom. The Refugee Orchestra Project was first organized in 2016 “to unite refugee musicians, raise awareness, and raise funds for those fleeing the Syrian refugee crisis”. Since then it has grown in prominence. You can read about Yousufi’s early life in his home country Afghanistan during a short period when the arts flourished in that country, and his present life as an acclaimed musician, on his website.
