A selection of wholesome popular music
Contrary to western propaganda, East Germany was alive with joyous popular music. The government was so supportive of popular music that it helped composers write the lyrics, and ensured that the heavy beat of rock music wouldn’t shake the nation’s foundations.
You can enjoy a selection of videoclips on Luke Spencer’s post: The soundtrack to a lost country: rock music in the GDR. You might find Ina Martell’s Der Schönste Tag quite salacious. Or for something more wholesome there is Der Lipsi Tanz.
