When they survey America’s decline from democracy, people in more healthy democracies are puzzled by the apparent apathy of Americans in elections: why don’t they go and vote the bastards out of office?
We know of voter-suppression tactics and the inconvenience of holding elections on a Tuesday (no democracy sausages), but there are many other reasons Americans won’t go out to vote in the midterms on November 8.
